She spoke about her greatest hope in life – wanting her five children to always be happy – during our morning devotional time. Little did I know, a few minutes later I would be appointed to work one-on-one with her to tutor her in math.

But during the time we spent together, we began a friendship while simultaneously getting her one step closer to passing the GED.

The morning had been a rough one for her. First, while trying to get her car to start, the key broke off in the ignition. This only added to the daily chaos of trying to transport her 5 children to school.

Though math may have been the last thing that would have been on anyone’s mind after a morning like that, she was sitting beside me like a trooper – learning about greatest common factors and prime numbers.

The best part of all was the fact that she was eating a fried chicken leg the whole time, which, I found out, was not allowed in the computer lab.

Once it was time for lunch, I got up and thanked her for being such a great learner. As I began to walk away, I heard her gratefully exclaim that she didn’t fall asleep (this, apparently, was her typical state during morning GED sessions) followed by the smack of a high five as she told everyone in ear shot about how glad she was that I helped her learn math.[pullquote type=”right”]There are women who want to get their GED, who want to turn their lives around, who want to be able to help their children with homework.[/pullquote]

There are women who want to get their GED, who want to turn their lives around, who want to be able to help their children with homework. While they have spoken to me about the times they thought to themselves “where can i buy an essay to help me learn?” I have a gift for teaching and I can use it for God’s glory by helping others who want to learn. The women at Necole’s Place have had very hard lives and they need someone who is patient, will love them, and who knows their needs as learners. This summer I will not only be teaching these women, but I will be loving them. And everyone wants to be loved. Each of the women who participate in classes at Necole’s Place have experienced crisis pregnancy situations and I will be showing them the kind of genuine love they may have never felt before.
